Requirements for OH&S auditor transition to (BS) OHSAS 18001:2007
The standard OHSAS 18001 has undergone a significant revision in 2007. IRCA will therefore require that certificated OH&S auditors are able demonstrate that they have taken the necessary steps to update their knowledge regarding the new (BS) OHSAS 18001:2007 standard. Auditors must understand the implications of these changes in the context of their OH&S auditing activities.
What is the transition requirement for IRCA certificated OH&S auditors?
All IRCA certificated OH&S auditors will need to complete a relevant transition workshop or course (being equivalent to a minimum of 4 hours structured CPD). This transition training should focus on the changes to the standard BS OHSAS 18001:2007 or OHSAS 18001:2007.
Auditors should complete this training before carrying out audits to the new standard revision (BS) OHSAS 18001:2007. IRCA will not accept audit evidence completed before the date of the transition training.
How should I submit audit and CPD evidence to IRCA?
- The transition workshop/course and your completed audits will be reviewed during your normal tri-annual renewal of certification.
- You must include details of your relevant CPD on the CPD log sheet (IRCA/173) that you submit as part of this process and a copy of the course certificate (if applicable).
- You must record which version of the standard each audit was conducted against on your audit log sheet (IRCA/106).
From what date can I submit audit and CPD evidence?
We will accept transition CPD and audits to the new standard that were carried out on or after 01 July 2007.
What kind of CPD will IRCA accept?
- In-house training and workshops
- A specific OH&S auditor transition course
