Raising standards in Azerbaijan

A new state-of-the-art laboratory has been opened by BSI in Baku, Azerbaijan, making it the first country in the Commonwealth of Independent States to commit to the adoption and harmonization of international standards.

The innovative facility provides high-quality testing of petroleum, water, spirits, food and metals. It is not only trailblazing for the Caspian region but is also one of the most advanced centres of its type in the world. It will have a key role in raising the competitiveness of export products from Azerbaijan, and will protect consumers from counterfeit and low quality products from around the region.

At present, all sectors of industry in Azerbaijan are rapidly developing, so a concurrent development of quality assurance and adoption of international standards is vital to tackle the global economy and enter the World Trade Organization and the EU. Ilham Aliyev, president of Azerbaijan, deemed it: 'Very encouraging and important to our country's progress in the international arena.'
