What happened to quality?

IRCA’s parent organization, the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), has published a survey report to investigate the place of quality in the UK’s public and private sectors.

The survey report, ‘Whatever Happened to the Q Word?’, was launched on 18 May at an event in London where top representatives from UK industry and political commentators debated its findings.

Described by the CQI as a manifesto for a national quality campaign, the report is a detailed analysis of attitudes and approaches to quality within the UK and states that the country must reinvest in quality principles to succeed in the post recession years.

Simon Feary, CQI CEO, said: 'It was hugely encouraging to hear so many members of the business world discussing the importance of quality for their own organisations and the wider UK economy. It confirmed the validity and importance of this research and the need for a wider debate.

'Britain is emerging from a deep and sustained recession, burdened with the highest national debt since the Second World War. Quality practices can and should be fundamental to helping us emerge from this dire position. It is time to promote the ‘Q’ word and recognize at a national level what doing ‘Q’ can mean for us and our economy.'
