New EFfCI guidelines for auditors
The European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI) has released important manufacturing guidelines detailing the role and requirements for accredited auditors within the cosmetics industry. The EFfCI’s Good Manufacturing Practice Guide for Cosmetic Ingredients is based upon ISO 9001 and has been updated after the publication of the 2008 version.
The guidelines ensure cosmetic ingredients are free from harmful contaminants and provide a means of demonstrating compliance through a good manufacturing practice (GMP) certificate. The certificate must be independently assessed and verified through second-party audits and the EFfCI’s aim is that these audits will be performed at the same time as ISO 9001 audits.
The new version of the EFfCI guidelines includes three new appendices that set out the requirements for obtaining certification by an independent assessment body when organizations already hold ISO 9001 certification.
- Appendix D details further requirements needed for certification in addition to those in ISO 9001
- Appendix E provides details of how the GMP certifiable scheme shall be administered
- Appendix F provides guidance on the criteria for auditor training so that they are competent to assess
The auditor competency requirements stated within the guidelines aim to give ISO 9001 chemical industry auditors an understanding of the principles of EFfCI good manufacturing practice (GMP) and pharmaceutical auditors an understanding of the differences between Pharma GMP and EFfCI GMP.
