ISO secretary general 'worried' at India's low IT certification levels
Expressing concern over the sudden spurt in ISO certifications in India, Alan Bryden, secretary general of the ISO, said figures showed that third party ISO 9001 certifications had doubled from 40,000 in 2005 to 80,000 in 2006.
He said it was a ‘matter of concern’ to the ISO whether the certifications had been done ‘responsibly’ and field surveys worried that some had been done ‘rapidly’.
He also added that despite India dominating the IT field, the level of ISO certifications secured in the country by IT companies was low compared to other countries like Japan, and India also did not rank very high in terms of ISO certifications relating to environmentally friendly standards.
