IPC annual congress

The International Personnel Certification Association (IPC) held its annual conference recently for member auditor certification bodies in New Delhi. Approximately 25 representatives from auditor certification bodies in the US, France, Japan, China, India, Korea and many other countries attended. The conference covered several topics but the focus was on the continuing debate surrounding the personnel certification standard, ISO 17024.

Last year IPC changed its name from the International Auditor Training and Certification Association (IATCA) in order to accommodate personnel certification bodies from fields outside of management systems auditing. IPC has moved away from using a peer review process and criteria as the method to establish equivalent auditor certification from country to country.

Instead it has nominated accreditation to the new ISO 17024:2003 international standard for personnel certification to achieve this. ISO 17024 is intended as a framework for certification bodies operating a certification programme for persons and as the standard against which an accreditation body can accredit the certification organisation.
