We are pleased to announce the world's first IRCA-certified online ISO 9000:2000 Series Foundation Course. The course (IRCA reference no. A17188) was developed by Business Edge in association with PulseLearning and is available at www.businessedge.ie
IRCA director, Simon Feary, said: 'We developed the on-line/distance learning foundation course criteria in response to demand for online training from the markets around the world. The solution developed by Business Edge and PulseLearning offers learners the opportunity to learn in their own time, at their own pace and in their own environment. It also removes the need to take time off work and reduces the cost associated with the classroom alternative and allows employers to assess the levels of knowledge within their organisations as well as being able to measure the true knowledge transfer.'
IRCA training affairs manager, Vincent Demsond, said: 'I consider distance learning to be a powerful new learning medium for organisations to use as part of their approach to developing and maintaining organisational competence. This course will serve as an excellent introduction to the ISO 9000 series for staff at all levels, and can be included as part of a company's standard induction programme. It is important to make the point that we do not see, or promote the idea, that online learning will replace other forms of learning. However, we do see it as another excellent tool in the industry's learning tool-kit.'
The learner can study the course content online, and then take a test. In order to successfully complete the course, learners must score above 70 per cent. If this score is not reached, a review page highlights the areas where scores are lowest, and takes the learner directly back to the relevant section of the course content. The test can be retaken immediately if the learner wishes. Techniques such as negative marking and randomised question generation are used to discourage guessing and to ensure that learners are presented with different tests each time.
Alternatively, the learner can also take the test immediately, thereby establishing his or her knowledge level first and allowing the learner to focus only on those areas where training is required.
Learners are provided with pre and post assessment, timely feedback and access to tutors for coaching. On successful completion of the test, scores are automatically forwarded to Business Edge, who will issue an IRCA accredited training certificate to learners who successfully complete the online course.
The ISO 9000:2000 Series Foundation course can be studied in the online format or as a traditional classroom-based course. It is designed for individuals involved in the development, implementation and management of an ISO 9001:2000 management system. It is also valuable for students preparing for other ISO 9001:2000 series-based training courses, such as the IRCA Lead Auditor training course or the IRCA internal QMS auditor training course.
The course introduces learners to the concepts and benefits of the 2000 series standards and the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard. It describes the process model concept and relates it to the ISO standard, highlighting the importance of customer input. The course is in seven modules dealing with:
