Renew your certification

IRCA auditor certification programmes provide business, industry and employers of auditors with confidence in the skills and competence of IRCA certificated auditors. When you renew your certification, you will ensure continued professional recognition of these skills, which will enhance your career prospects and make you more marketable to organizations requiring the services of experienced and credible auditors.

Certification renewal process

You must renew your certification every 3 years. We will contact you in the last year of your certification period asking you to provide us with the evidence to meet the renewal requirements (as listed below). The evidence is then evaluated and a certification decision made. We aim to provide you with the certification decision, your new IRCA certification card and the fee invoice within 5 weeks, providing that you have supplied us with all necessary documentation.

Renewal requirements

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

For all grades except the internal auditor grade, you must have completed at least 45 hours of appropriate CPD during the 3-year period immediately prior to renewal of certification. Evidence can include verified CPD log sheets, course programmes, meeting agendas etc.

Audit experience

Please record and submit your audit experience on audit log sheets. You must have performed all audits within the previous three-year certification period.

  • Internal auditor grade: a minimum of 5 audits, totalling at least 15 hours
  • Provisional auditor grade: there is no requirement to perform audits
  • Auditor grade: a minimum of 5 acceptable audits
  • Lead auditor grade: a minimum of 5 acceptable audits, 2 as the leader of a team which included at least 1 other auditor
  • Principal auditor grade: a minimum of 5 acceptable lead or sole audits

Declaration of complaints

You need to inform us of any complaints made against your professional conduct. We will formally investigate any complaints made. If complaints are made and you do not declare them to us, the consequences are likely to be far more serious and may result in suspension or withdrawal of your certification.

Compliance with the IRCA code of conduct

We require you to make a formal declaration that you have always acted in compliance with the code of conduct.
