A day to remember
This June saw the world’s first International Accreditation Day. The aim was to raise awareness of the accreditation's importance around the globe. With a theme of ‘trust’, the day highlighted how accreditation against internationally recognized standards underpins confidence in goods and services.
The initiative, organized by the International Accreditation Forum and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, was voted into existence during their joint general assembly last October and was fully supported by UKAS.
Daniel Pierre and Thomas Facklam, chairs of ILAC and IAF respectively, said: ‘At a national level, accreditation builds trust in the accredited conformity assessment services and in the corresponding results. Internationally, the multilateral agreements established by ILAC and IAF confirm and enhance such trust and eliminate the need for products and services to be re-evaluated in every country that a supplier operates in.’
